I'm sticking with Vilene. Sulky Super Solvy isn't good for freestanding lace at all. In spite of a new needle and proper tension it got holes in it and created a tangled mess under the plate. I hope I have better luck using it on t-shirts or towels, if not then it's a total waste. The one star I gave it is for the hope I have that I can use it in other ways.

Update: I've discovered that I can use it with two layers and it works wonderfully. I also discovered I was using a badly digitized design. The digitizing makes all the difference in the world. I will be buying more.

I asked one of my friends why her applique and embroidery looked more professional than mine. She sent me a link to this product, saying that it would keep the stitches from sinking into the fabric. And it does-- I use it on top of the fabric (I use a tear-away stabilizer on back), anchored in the hoop. It is so water-soluble that the tiniest spritz from a spray-bottle makes it dissolve, so there's no effort to getting the scraps off.

This stuff is AMAZING! I've been having both my embroidery machines going with in-the-hoop projects (look on Embroidery Library's website for great designs and lots of tips and tutorials)---3-D lace pumpkins and other lace designs, coasters and potholders. This stabilizer feels like fabric and holds up to intense stitching much better than any other kind I've tried. It completely disappears with a touch of water, which makes for neat edges on coasters and potholders---no teensy bits of stabilizer left behind! You can use a clean (new) paintbrush to dab water along the edges with good results. I use a glass pie pan with a little water in the bottom to soak all the stabilizer out of lace projects. Then, I let them dry on a lint-free cloth.

This may be marketed as a stabilizer for lace and other free-standing projects, but it also works really well on fleece throws and towels. I've used it as my only stabilizer on top and bottom for these. Again, this stabilizer holds up well for intense stitching and completely disappears with a dab of water. Another big plus for me is that it's easy to hoop. I'm a picky hooper.

Soluble fibrous stabilizer arrived promptly and I was pleased by that. It comes off the roll a little less smooth than the similar, yet more expensive, product I purchased at the Brother Store but it works just as well as any I have found. Did I mention: Pricing was better at Amazon? I liked the sturdy plastic tube with lid from the product at the Brother store because if the stabilizer gets wet, it's worthless so now I keep the better priced stabilizer from Amazon in the tube that came with the more expensive brand.

holds up well to heavy stitching, washed out very quickly and easily, cleanly no residue. I ran out of topper stabilizer and used a piece of this instead, worked well. Did not "dry out" live in a area that is very dry sometimes stabilizers dry out and crack this one has not.

I do free standing lace on my embroidery machine and this stuff works great. It doesn't pull away and leave gaps in your lace. Give this Solvy a try, I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

I can't say enough about this product, you can use it in so many applications for embroidery and if you think about it a little you will find you can probably use it in different crafts. I have used it a lot, you can make beautiful Xmas tree ornaments, embroider on really difficult materials. Once you have used it you will find many ways you can create something special. I have to admit I love Amazon, I come here first when looking for anything I want to buy. They have access to just about anything you need. I joined Prime and sure glad I did, just about everything ships free 2 day shipping and I do a lot of shopping. I live out in the country and it saves so much time and fuel(diesel) which is .50 more a gallon than regular gas, It's over 60 miles round trip to the shopping town near me, It has really paid for itself plus with a Roku & Prime I get free movies.

This is a great product for crafters. I am using it with yarn and it does require the Sulky spray adhesive to hold in place.

I don't do embroidery, so the I just tried this for the first time for thread bowls. (Wendy Hill's Incredible Thread-a-Bowls)
The instructions for some of the bowls called for a layer each of both Super Solvy and Ultra Solvy. But when I saw the prices, I decided to just get the Super Solvy and try two layers of that. It worked perfectly. I don't know why the thread-bowl author calls for both, it was not explained.

I'll brriefly describe the thread bowl process so this makes sense....You lay a paper form down on a work surface first (just for reference), then lay one layer of Super Solvy over that. Then you place all your threads (and other filler) for your bowl on the first layer of Solvy, extending out a bit past the paper reference guide. Place one more layer of Solvy over the threads. Slide out the paper form from underneat to get it out of the way. Pin the three layers together generously (Solvy, threads, Solvy). Sew (a lot) through the layers on your machine to hold everything together. Then pin sewn layers to paper form, so you can cut the sewn layers to correct size. Rinse 'most, not all' of the solvy out and place thread circle over inverted bowl till dry. Carefully remove and seal, and you have a beautiful thread bowl. These instructions are not as detailed as in the book, but I just want to give readers an accurate idea what I use the Solvy for.

This review may not mean anything to embroiderers, but for 'thread-bowlers' please don't feel you need to buy both the Super and Ultra. This one works just fine.
